A tragic start to the year in Sydney. Early on New Year’s Day, a 25-year-old woman was swept out into the ocean from Maroubra Beach. Around 4am, she was hit by a wave and knocked into a tidal rock pool. Then further waves pulled her out to sea. Police and NSW Ambulance were called. With help from the police air wing, the search found the woman’s body around 5am. Formal identification is still pending, but police believe it is the missing woman. Meanwhile, a second emergency arose at Coogee Beach shortly after 6am. A man, thought to be in his 20s, was reported struggling in the water. Police, ambulance, surf lifesaving teams, and council officers are actively searching for him. The community hopes for his safe rescue as teams work urgently on the rescue operation.
