The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two suspected overground workers with alleged terrorist links from Ganderbal district, officials said on Thursday, January 1, 2026. The suspects, identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir and Shabnum Nazir, were caught during a late-night checking at the Gundrehman Bridge on December 31, 2025. Police recovered weapons including a Chinese pistol, one magazine, four rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, and ₹8.40 lakh cash from them. A police spokesperson said, "The recoveries made from the arrested persons also included a Chinese pistol, one magazine, four rounds and two hand grenades." A case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act is registered at Ganderbal police station. Authorities are investigating the source, motive, and possible connections related to the recovered arms and cash.
