The Viruthampattu police arrested two migrant workers near Katpadi in Vellore on Thursday. The men, S. Balram, 26, from Uttar Pradesh, and G. Dharmendra, 25, from Delhi, tried to steal cash by damaging an ATM machine of a private bank. Both had worked odd jobs in the area until two weeks ago. Police found that after stopping work, they frequently traveled the Chittoor-Katpadi-Arakkonam-Chennai rail route. On December 29, the duo attempted to break into the ATM locker in Viruthampattu village but failed. Bank officials noticed the attempt from CCTV footage and alerted police. Using the video, the police traced and arrested Balram and Dharmendra. They seized mobile phones, welding machines, and fake ATM cards from the suspects. A case has been registered, and both men are held at the Central Prison in Vellore. The investigation is ongoing.
