In Shariatpur district, Bangladesh, businessman Khokon Chandra Das, aged 50, suffered a brutal attack on Wednesday night. Near Keurbhanga Bazaar in Damudya Upazila, miscreants stopped his autorickshaw. They beat, hacked, and set him on fire. Khokon jumped into a pond to save himself. Locals rushed him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, then transferred him to Dhaka for advanced care due to his serious injuries. Khokon, who owns a medicine shop and a mobile banking business, was returning home after closing his shop. His wife, Seema Das, said, "We have no disputes with anyone. We do not understand why he was targeted." She also mentioned Khokon recognised two attackers. Police named two suspects, Rabbi and Sohag, and are trying to arrest them and find others involved. This attack follows other recent assaults on minorities across Bangladesh, including arson and brutal killings in different regions.
