Four Men Rescued from Boat Dangling on Edge of South African Dam
January 2, 2026
Four men were rescued after their boat drifted to the edge of the Grootdraai Dam in South Africa. The boat suffered motor failure and was left teetering on the edge of the 40-meter (130-foot) dam. Rescuers from the National Sea Rescue Institute (NRSI) reached the scene in Mpumalanga on Monday. They acted fast after reports of the stranded boat. The NRSI praised quick-thinking workers who opened the sluice gates on the spillway. These gates helped stop the boat from being pushed away by the strong water flow. Fortunately, all four men were reportedly uninjured. The dramatic footage shows the moment they were pulled to safety after hours spent hanging off the dam's edge.
