Delhi Assembly to Hire Langur Sound Mimics to Drive Away Monkeys
January 2, 2026
The Delhi Assembly is taking a unique step to control monkeys entering its premises. Officials said on January 2, 2026, that they plan to hire people who can mimic langur sounds. "There are dozens of monkeys near and around the location who create trouble, jumping on wires and dish antennas and breaking them," a government official said. The Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a tender to find trained personnel who can make langur calls. This method is seen as effective and humane to scare monkeys away without harming them. The expert will also bring a real langur to intimidate the monkeys. Earlier, officials tried langur cutouts, but "monkeys no longer get scared of them. Instead, they sit atop those cut outs," the official added. "They had langur impersonators, but their contract ended. A fresh tender has been floated to hire trained people who can mimic sounds made by langurs," the official confirmed. The plan is to deploy handlers during working days and Saturdays. Each person will work an eight-hour shift. The agency will ensure safety, discipline, and proper equipment for the handlers. Performance-based monitoring and insurance coverage will be in place for the personnel. The monkey problem is not new. "In 2017, the furry visitor had entered the House and interrupted a discussion on guest teachers in government schools," the official recalled. This new move aims to keep the Vidhan Sabha area safe and monkey-free.
