Dense Fog Causes 14 Flight Diversions and 19 Cancellations at Hyderabad Airport
January 2, 2026
Dense fog disrupted flight operations at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Friday morning, January 2, 2025. Between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., 14 flights were diverted due to low visibility affecting landings. Many international flights were redirected to Bengaluru or Chennai. These included IndiGo flights from Muscat, Riyadh, Dammam, Kuwait City, and Jeddah. Oman Air’s Muscat flight, Emirates’ Dubai service, and Flynas from Riyadh were also diverted to Bengaluru. "All the flights that were diverted due to fog later returned to Hyderabad once weather conditions improved," said Hyderabad airport officials. The fog caused further troubles with 19 IndiGo flights cancelled, including 10 arrivals and 9 departures. Routes affected included Bengaluru, Mumbai, Varanasi, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Patna, Guwahati, and Kochi. Additionally, nine flights faced delays, all departing from Hyderabad to destinations like Lucknow, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Goa, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai. The disruptions created a chain reaction impacting the day’s schedule at RGIA.
