US President Donald Trump has issued a firm warning to Iran. He said the US is "locked and loaded and ready to go" if Iran kills peaceful protesters. On his social media, Trump wrote, "If Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue." He did not specify what action the US might take. Iran is facing widespread protests. At least six people have died after nearly a week of unrest. The protests began over worsening economic conditions, with the Iranian currency falling sharply. They started in Tehran and spread to other cities, with many chanting against the country's clerical rulers and calling for a change in leadership. A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ali Larijani, responded to Trump’s warning. He said, "Trump should know that US interference in this internal matter would mean destabilising the entire region and destroying America's interests." Videos on social media showed clashes between protesters and security forces, with cars set on fire. Reports from the semi-official Fars news agency and human rights group Hengaw say that among those killed were protesters named Ahmad Jalil and Sajjad Valamanesh in the city of Lordegan. President Masoud Pezeshkian said he will listen to protesters' "legitimate demands," but Iran’s Prosecutor-General Mohammad Movahedi-Azad warned that any attempt to create instability would face a "decisive response." This protest wave is the largest since the 2022 uprising, but still smaller. In June, the US carried out strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites ordered by Trump. Iran retaliated with a missile attack on a US military base in Qatar. Now, tensions remain high as the situation unfolds.
