The Telangana Government has paid ₹3,593.17 crore to the Electricity department. This money covers bills for 52,82,498 beneficiaries under the Gruha Jyoti Scheme. The scheme started in March 2024. It offers up to 200 free electricity units each month to low-income families and ration card holders. On January 2, 2026, Deputy Chief Minister and Power Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka answered a question from MLC Vijayashanti in the Legislative Council. He said 25,35,560 beneficiaries receive power from the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited. Another 27,46,938 get electricity from the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited. This free power scheme aids many families by reducing their electricity costs and supports lower-income groups in Telangana every month.
