Ittigegud Residents Protest MDA's Plan to Rent Govt Building to Private Parties
January 2, 2026
Residents of Ittigegud gathered on January 2 to protest outside a Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) building. They opposed MDA's plan to rent the building to private parties. The building was originally meant for a Passport Office. The protestors include locals from nearby areas like Nazarabad. They submitted a memorandum to the MDA Commissioner. The letter asked the authorities to cancel the rental decision. It also said the building should serve as a government office or an educational institution instead. The building is located at Mysuru Zoo Main Road and Lokaranjan Mahal Road. Earlier, a government primary school was here before it was merged due to fewer students. The old school building was demolished for the new one. Residents said they were told the new building would be used for a Passport Seva Kendra or other government use. But no government office has moved in yet. Instead, they heard the building was leased out to private parties. The memorandum questioned, “How appropriate is it to construct a building on land where a government school once existed and then hand it over to private parties?” It also raised concern that many government offices now pay rent but could be shifted to this building instead of renting private spaces. The residents fear it will be hard to reclaim the building once given to private parties. They demanded immediate cancellation of the rental plan. They want the property to be used for public benefit, either as a government office or a school.
