Trekking Banned at Margan Top, Chauhar Nag, and Sinthan Top in Anantnag for 2 Months
January 2, 2026
Popular trekking spots in Anantnag, Kashmir have been closed for two months. Margan Top, Chauhar Nag, and Sinthan Top are off limits from January 2, 2026. These places sit high at around 3,696 meters and attract adventure lovers. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kokernag, issued the order following security inputs. "Unrestricted movement and outdoor activities in these sensitive areas could adversely affect public safety and security," the order said. The Station House Officer (SHO) Larnoo must enforce the ban and control movement at checkpoints. Margan Top, Chauhar Nag, and Sinthan Top link Kisthwar in Jammu with Kashmir Valley. Margan Top also leads to Kargil in Ladakh and is popular among local and foreign trekkers. The ban aims to reduce risks in these high-altitude and forested zones starting immediately.
