Maharashtra Police Arrest Two Men for Raping Minor Migrant Girls in Beed
January 3, 2026
The Maharashtra Police arrested two men for allegedly raping two minor girls on December 24, 2025, in Beed district. Both girls are children of migrant labourers from the Gond community who came from Chhattisgarh to work in sugarcane fields. The police filed an FIR on December 29. Activist Jeewan Rathore, assisting the families, said the families face pressure to drop the complaints. The accused, Ganesh Rajebhau Ghatul and Ashok Bhaskar Pawar, were arrested on December 30 and are now in judicial custody. The girls' statements will be recorded in the Majalgaon court on January 3, 2026. According to Mr. Rathore, the girls stayed silent for four days due to threats from the accused. The case surfaced when one girl sought medical help for pain. Currently, the girls are under the care of the Child Welfare Committee in Beed. Police invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, POCSO Act, and Scheduled Caste Atrocities Prohibition Act in the FIR. The incident happened when the accused, one a shopkeeper and the other a tractor driver, dragged the girls from their huts to the fields and assaulted them. Mr. Rathore added that he was threatened for supporting the families. He said the families are poor, landless, and face pressure from the local dominant caste to withdraw the case. He also highlighted poor living conditions of migrant labourers in Beed, with over 5,000 coming annually to work on sugarcane farms. Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet confirmed the children are safe in Bal Graha and the accused are in custody. He assured that the investigation will be fair and the girls will be protected throughout the process.
