Air Strikes Kill Seven Separatists in Yemen Amid Rising Tensions with Saudi-Led Coalition
January 3, 2026
Air strikes killed seven separatist fighters in Yemen on Friday, an official from the Southern Transition Council (STC) said. The Saudi-led coalition launched the attacks after the UAE-backed STC took control of large areas in Hadramawt and Mahra provinces last month. This is the first coalition fire causing deaths since the STC’s advance. STC spokesman called the fight a "decisive and existential" war against Saudi-backed forces. Mohammed Abdulmalik, head of STC in Wadi Hadramaut and Hadramaut Desert, reported that seven air strikes hit the Al-Khasah camp, killing seven fighters and wounding more than 20. More air strikes targeted other areas nearby. These raids followed pro-Saudi forces’ recent effort to "peacefully" seize military sites in Hadramawt. On the same day, Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed AlJabir, said the STC blocked a Saudi delegation from landing at Aden airport, accusing the group of "intransigence." Additionally, Yemen's STC-controlled transport ministry criticized Saudi Arabia’s demand that all flights to and from the UAE must stop in Saudi Arabia for security checks.
