Hyderabad Police Arrest Four Men for Swapping ATM Cards and Stealing Cash
January 3, 2026
Mehdipatnam police arrested four men for cheating ATM users by swapping their cards. The accused are Aamir Suhel (24), Mustakeem (25), Mubarik (26), all from Haryana, and Md Amer (33), an auto rickshaw driver from Hyderabad outskirts. Police say Aamir Suhel and Mubarik were the main culprits. They recovered ₹52,000 cash, 89 ATM cards, three mobiles, and a Telangana-registered auto rickshaw during the arrest on January 3 at Vijay Nagar Colony. The case surfaced after an electrician from Asif Nagar complained his mother’s ATM card was swapped at a Mallepally ATM in December. He noticed unauthorised withdrawals and realised the card returned was not his. The gang targeted elderly and illiterate people by pretending to help with balance checks or withdrawals. They got the PIN, swapped the card, and later withdrew money from victims’ accounts. Some accused had past cases of theft and cheating in other states. All four were sent to judicial custody. Police warned people not to share ATM cards or PINs with strangers, even inside banks. Investigations continue to find more victims.
