Abu Dhabi Cracks Down on Noisy Vehicles with Heavy Fines and Strict Penalties
January 5, 2026
Abu Dhabi is toughening the fight against noisy vehicles and reckless driving. Police warn that excessively loud engines, from illegal modifications or reckless behaviour, now carry a Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points. Officials say loud noise is not just annoying but a public safety risk, disturbing families and sensitive residents.
The crackdown targets especially young drivers with modified exhausts or engines revving loudly in residential areas and family campsites. Under Article 20 of the Traffic and Circulation Law, offenders face heavy fines and black points that affect their driving record and insurance.
Unauthorized engine or chassis changes are also banned. Violators can get fined Dh1,000, get 12 black points, and have their vehicles seized for up to 30 days under Law No. 5 of 2020. If unpaid, seized cars might be auctioned after three months, with a hefty Dh10,000 release fee.
In early 2025, authorities seized 106 noisy vehicles in Al Ain alone, showing serious enforcement action. Abu Dhabi Police stress this is about road safety, not just quiet streets. Loud engines can distract other drivers and increase accidents. Officers urge the public to report noisy vehicles by calling 999.
Car fans should note illegal modifications come with risks. Police say loud engine noise from standard cars isn't targeted, but reckless noise in family zones is out of bounds. Online reactions vary but stress community safety.
Tips to avoid fines:
- Don’t rev engines loudly in residential or sandy areas.
- Avoid illegal vehicle modifications.
- Report disruptive vehicles to authorities.
This crackdown is part of a larger UAE effort to improve traffic rules and public safety with high-tech enforcement and strict penalties. Abu Dhabi aims for peaceful, safe roads for all drivers and residents as 2026 begins.
