Bombay HC Stays Maharashtra Cricket Association Elections Over Member Induction Issues
January 6, 2026
The Bombay High Court has blocked elections for the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) scheduled for January 6, 2026. The court questioned how 400 new members were added to the MCA, including relatives of current president and NCP MLA Rohit Pawar. The Bench, led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, said the whole admission process "gave a prima-facie impression that everything was done in a hot haste." Petitions claimed MCA violated Supreme Court election norms and showed favouritism in voter list updates released on December 25, 2025. The new members include Rohit Pawar’s wife Kunti, his father-in-law Satish Magar, and MP Supriya Sule’s daughter Revati, the petitions revealed. Former cricketer Kedar Jadhav, among the petitioners, said many new members had no cricket background and were added to control MCA like a private body. The High Court noted many new members were related to top officials, and existing members lacked chances to object or access meeting minutes. The judges said the court must review the choice to add 400 members before elections, as it could impact results. They ordered the election officer not to proceed until further notice. Next hearing is on February 4, 2026. The court also questioned if donating money alone should grant life membership, stating MCA’s aim is to improve cricket quality and facilities. MCA's senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi defended the new members, saying they contributed funds and MCA rules do not restrict membership to cricketers or sport associates.
