A man named Cyril Zattara is on trial in southern France. He is accused of drugging and raping 14 women over ten years. Cyril is a dance teacher and calls himself a self-taught hypnotherapist. He also filmed about 20 other women during the assaults. Cyril has admitted to 10 rape charges. He has been in detention since 2021, waiting for the trial. The trial is happening in Aix-en-Provence and is closed to the public. One victim asked for this to protect her privacy. Others wanted the trial to be open to be heard by more people. According to the police, Cyril gave women sleeping pills in their drinks. He often targeted women he was friends with or had relationships with. Police found photos and videos on his computer showing women in a drugged state during sex. One woman, who complained in 2019, said she drank wine he gave her at a hypnosis session. She later woke up with vague memories of the rape and vomiting. Cyril's DNA was found under her fingernails and on her underwear. Tests showed strong sleep drugs in her body. This case follows a similar one where Dominique Pelicot was jailed for 20 years for drugging and raping his ex-wife and allowing others to abuse her.
