Twitch Streamers Report Account Hacks Despite Two-Factor Authentication
January 6, 2026
Popular streaming platform Twitch is facing security troubles. Many streamers reported that their accounts were hacked. Unknown attackers accessed accounts and changed payout details. This happened even when two-factor authentication (2FA) was on. The news spread quickly on X, stirring worries about Twitch's safety. Virtual streamers Kiona and Sasuga Reina shared their stories. Kiona said, “someone hacked into my Twitch account and changed the payout method WHILE I HAVE 2FA, i didn’t get a text message to my phone or any notification that anyone was trying to sign in. HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? @Twitch #twitch HELLO???” Sasuga Reina received an email about changes she didn’t make. She linked this to a Twitch Prime bot attack and criticized Twitch support for ignoring her at first. She posted, “PSA IF YOU WERE HIT BY TWITCH PRIME BOTS: Hey @TwitchSupport I just reached out to you because I noticed that I got an email saying my account payment details have been changed, when I DID NOT change them... Your chat support agent was more interested in getting me off of the chat instead of actually addressing that my account was clearly compromised, despite having 2FA enabled.” Twitch confirmed it is aware and investigating. It asked users affected to contact support at https://link.twitch.tv/GetSupport. On the same day, Twitch updated its Cookie Notices for the first time since 2019. The update includes new details on cookie types. Twitch has not said if the cookie update relates to the hacks. Streamers continue to seek more answers.
