A 45-year-old man was arrested for the death of a couple whose bodies were found burned in a hut at Pakkiripalayam village near Chengam town, Tiruvannamalai. The suspect, V. Sivakumar, is a mason and the ex-husband of the female victim. The victims, T. Sakthivel, 55, a farmer, and his wife S. Amirtham, 40, lived in the same village. Police investigations revealed that Amirtham was previously married to Sivakumar. They had three children before separating a few years ago due to differences. Sakthivel, formerly a ward councilor and DMK cadre member, first married Tamilisai, with whom he had three sons. The couple lived separately after misunderstandings, with Tamilisai in Bengaluru. After separating from Sivakumar, Amirtham married Sakthivel. The couple was living together in the hut. Police said Sivakumar was upset that his ex-wife married another man from the same village. On the night of January 3, he locked the hut from outside and set it on fire while the couple was inside, sleeping. Residents alerted the Chengam police. They inspected the scene and sent the bodies to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai for postmortem. A case was registered, and Sivakumar was taken to Central Prison in Vellore. The investigation continues.
