January 7, 2026
A six-year-old girl named Shahnaz Khatun was found murdered on January 5 in a migrant colony at Pattandur Agrahara, Whitefield, east Bengaluru. Shahnaz is the daughter of Inzamam Sheikh, a migrant labourer from West Bengal. Inzamam briefly saw Shahnaz playing outside their makeshift home before lunch. He also noticed a man, later identified as Yusuf Meer from West Bengal, near their house. Moments later, Shahnaz went missing. Her parents searched and found her body in a nearby drain. Police say she was strangled to death. They found no signs of sexual assault. Preliminary investigation points to personal vengeance as the motive. The Whitefield police have registered a murder case following the family's complaint. They are actively searching for the suspect Yusuf Meer. Inzamam Sheikh told police he had no personal or financial conflict with the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
