Supreme Court Asks Maharashtra Govt on Bail Pleas in Pune Porsche Crash Case
January 7, 2026
On January 7, 2026, the Supreme Court asked the Maharashtra government to reply on bail pleas filed by two accused in the Pune Porsche car accident case. Two persons, Aditya Avinash Sood (52) and Ashish Satish Mittal (37), are seeking bail after their blood samples were reportedly swapped in tests involving two minors from the crash.
The accident happened on May 19, 2024, in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area. A 17-year-old boy, allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, hit and killed two IT professionals. The minor was the main accused.
A Bench led by Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan issued notices to the state government about the bail petitions. The Bombay High Court had earlier on December 16, 2025, rejected the bail pleas of eight accused, including Sood and Mittal.
The juvenile justice board had initially granted bail to the minor with a condition to write a 300-word essay on road safety. This lenient bail caused public outrage. The Pune police then asked the board to review its order. The juvenile was later sent to an observation home but was released by the High Court in June.
So far, ten accused linked to the blood sample swapping case have been jailed. They include the juvenile's parents Vishal and Shivani Agarwal, two doctors Ajay Tawre and Shreehari Halnor, a hospital staffer Atul Ghatkamble, two middlemen, and Sood, Mittal, and Arun Kumar Singh.
The Supreme Court's move signals a fresh look at bail in this high-profile Pune crash case that has drawn strong public attention.
