Tata Power to Invest ₹6,675 Crore in 10 GW Solar Wafer Plant in Nellore
January 7, 2026
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) is setting up a massive 10-Gigawatt ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The project will cost ₹6,675 crore and is the largest of its kind in India. It will be built in the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone, with 200 acres allotted by the state government. The first phase will use 120 acres, with 80 acres for future growth. The wafers and ingots made here are essential for solar cells, modules, and semiconductors. This project supports India's goal to boost domestic manufacturing and cut import reliance on vital parts. TPREL will also build a 200 MW green energy power plant to supply clean power to the facility. Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh welcomed the investment, calling it "a strong vote of confidence in the State’s policy stability, infrastructure readiness, and commitment to clean energy manufacturing." This move strengthens Andhra Pradesh's position as a key hub for solar power manufacturing in India.
