Telangana Police Files Chargesheets in Telugu to Help Public Understand Justice
January 7, 2026
In a first-of-its-kind move, Head Constable Swaroopa of Dundigal police station filed chargesheets in Telugu for two cases in 2025. This change aims to make justice easier to access for the public, especially those who find English legal documents hard to understand. Swaroopa, encouraged by her seniors, submitted the chargesheets entirely in Telugu, the official language of Telangana. In one case, the police arrested Venkatesh of Bourampet for illegally storing and selling liquor from his grocery shop. After investigating under the Excise Act, Swaroopa filed a Telugu chargesheet before the First Class Magistrate at Medchal. In another case, a 35-year-old migrant woman and her four-year-old daughter went missing. The police found and reunited them with their family. Swaroopa then submitted the final report in Telugu to ACP Medchal, Shankar Reddy. Her work earned her a commendation along with 49 other police personnel from State Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy and Cyber Security Bureau Director Shikha Goel at an event held at the Telangana Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills on January 7, 2026.
