Biman Bangladesh Airlines To Relaunch Direct Dhaka-Karachi Flights After 10 Years
January 7, 2026
Bangladesh’s national airline, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, will restart nonstop flights between Dhaka and Karachi starting January 29. This move restores direct air links between Bangladesh and Pakistan after more than 10 years. The airline will operate two flights a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays, according to a Biman press release reported by Prothom Alo. The flight will leave Dhaka at 8 pm and arrive in Karachi by 11 pm. The return flight departs Karachi at midnight and lands in Dhaka at 4:20 am. Direct flights between these cities last operated in 2012. Discussions with Pakistani aviation authorities to reopen this route took several months. The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority has officially approved Biman to fly and use specific air corridors in Pakistani airspace. This step follows improved relations between Dhaka and Islamabad after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in 2024. The new service is expected to ease travel, support business, tourism, and family visits. Biman said the flights will use modern aircraft and experienced crews. The Dhaka-Karachi distance is about 2,370 km. Currently, travelers must fly via Middle Eastern hubs like Emirates and Qatar Airways, with travel times often stretching beyond 12 hours. Overflight permissions from India remain unclear, as the shortest route passes Indian airspace. The plan to resume direct flights was first announced in August last year during Pakistan’s deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Dhaka — the first high-level Pakistan visit in over a decade.
