Over ₹5 Lakh Fines Collected in Telangana Overnight Checks, Illegal PDS Rice Seized

The Vigilance and Enforcement Department collected more than ₹5 lakh in fines during overnight route checks on January 6-7 near Gandi Maisamma on the Outer Ring Road, Balanagar X Road and surrounding areas. The Hyderabad City-1 unit worked with the Motor Vehicles, Mines, and Commercial Taxes Departments from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Eleven cases under the Motor Vehicles Act were registered for overloading, licence, permit, and tax violations. Vehicles were seized and fines of ₹4.37 lakh imposed. Additionally, five cases under the Mining Act for illegal sand transport led to fines worth about ₹63,705. In another crackdown, Telangana Vigilance officials raided a closed rice mill near Chityal village in Nirmal mandal. They seized 160 quintals of illegally stored Public Distribution System (PDS) rice valued at roughly ₹4.80 lakh. The rice was handed to Nirmal district Civil Supplies officials for further action. The department urges citizens to report misuse of government resources via its toll-free number 14432.
