A YouTuber has been arrested and a police sub-inspector is absconding in connection with the abduction and gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Kanpur's Sachendi area, police said on January 7, 2026. The victim, a class 7 dropout, was reportedly kidnapped in a Mahindra Scorpio around 10 p.m. on Monday and taken near a railway track where she was sexually assaulted for two hours. She was later found unconscious near her home. Police named Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Maurya and YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav in the FIR. Yadav has been arrested, while four teams are hunting the missing SI. The SUV used in the crime, owned by Maurya, is seized. Police said Maurya was in Sachendi at the time, although posted elsewhere. Victim's family alleged police tried to cover up due to a cop's involvement. The girl's brother said police took her mobile phone and stopped her from going home until she gave a court statement. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal suspended Sachendi SHO Vikram Singh for not applying the POCSO Act and for distorting facts. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Chandra Tripathi was also removed. Deenanath Mishra now leads Sachendi Police Station, with the case investigation transferred to Additional DCP Kapil Dev Singh. Former MP Subhashini Ali condemned the crime and called out the “widespread impunity” faced by women in the state. Raghubir Lal promised a transparent probe and strict action against those responsible.
