Two Army Porters Fall Into Stream Near Baramulla; Rescue Underway

A rescue operation began near a forward post in Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, after two Army porters skidded into a stream on January 8, 2026. The porters, Layakat Ahmad Deedard and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana, are from the Chandoosa area in north Kashmir. They were traveling to Anita Post in Upper Gulmarg when they lost control and fell into the stream. Officials said Anita Post is a winter cut-off post due to heavy snow. The rescue efforts are currently ongoing to locate and assist the porters.
