Etihad Rail to Launch UAE’s First National Passenger Train Service in 2026
January 9, 2026
The UAE will see a big change in travel when Etihad Rail launches its national passenger service in 2026. This new train network will connect cities from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the east, covering all seven emirates. Etihad Rail will build 11 main passenger stations serving cities, desert areas, coastal towns, and universities.
Trains will run at 200 km/h, much faster than road travel. This means less time wasted in traffic jams on busy highways like the E11 and E311. The trains can carry up to 400 passengers, with cabins designed for comfort and luxury by Spanish company CAF.
Travelers can choose seats in First Class with ultra-luxury recliners, Business Class, or spacious Economy Class. All seats have charging ports and access to fast Wi-Fi. The trains have strong air-conditioning to keep passengers cool in the desert heat. Food and drinks will also be available onboard.
Etihad Rail does not stop at the trains. Major stations like Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai will link directly to the Dubai Metro. Other stations will have bus terminals and taxi zones for easy “first and last mile” trips. You could leave home in Sharjah, take a short bus to the train, and reach Abu Dhabi office in under 90 minutes, all while working or relaxing.
The ticketing system is digital-first, with smart-gates for easy entry and an app to book your whole journey. This railway is a key part of the "UAE Projects of the 50," aiming to boost the economy and reduce carbon emissions by 70-80% compared to cars.
Shadi Malak, Etihad Rail CEO, said, "Our goal is to create a network that is safe, efficient, and sustainable. This is not just about transportation; it’s about enhancing the quality of life for every citizen and resident in the UAE." By early 2026, 10 of the 13 trains are already in the country and being tested for safety. The future of UAE travel is about to get speedy, comfy, and green.
