Traffic Chaos Hits Chandapura-Attibele on Hosur Road Amid Ongoing NHAI Roadworks
January 9, 2026
Roadworks on the busy Chandapura-Attibele stretch of Hosur Road are causing severe traffic jams. Commuters face delays exceeding one hour daily. Traffic backs up all the way to the Attibele toll plaza. The National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) work has been ongoing for months but remains poorly managed.
Local residents complain of slow progress and bad planning. Mahesh Kumar from Attibele said, "This stretch is a textbook example of how poor planning and slow execution can paralyse an entire highway." He added there is often no traffic police visible during peak jams.
Emergency services are also struggling. Residents report ambulances get stuck because of narrowed roads, diversions, and confusing barricades. Mahesh Kumar warned, "When traffic is gridlocked for kilometres, even ambulances struggle to move. It’s frightening to think of the consequences during a medical emergency."
Krishna R., a daily user of this route, said the multiple infrastructure projects have turned the corridor into "a nightmare." He explained, "They have dug up the road extensively and left it in a terrible state. This road is a key entry into Bengaluru for traffic coming from Tamil Nadu. With so much work happening simultaneously and no coordination, the entire stretch has become a mess."
Another commuter, Shiva Kumar, criticised the poor road condition. "Just today, I saw two brand-new sedans break down here. The base layers look weak and patchy. If this is the quality now, it will take years to complete these roads properly," he said.
Cab driver Prabhu S. described driving here as "more like off-roading than using a city highway." He added, "There is zero communication or accountability. Agencies dig up the road, leave it half-done and disappear. One badly managed choke point is enough to slow the entire national highway till Bommasandra, and people end up burning hours in traffic every day."
A local police official confirmed that extra staff have been deployed during peak hours to ease congestion. "We have stationed extra staff during morning and evening rush hours to ease congestion and regulate vehicle movement, as roadworks are currently under way on this stretch," the official said.
NHAI officials have not responded to queries about the situation.
