Renee Good Killed by ICE Officer in Minneapolis; Viral Video Sparks Protests and FBI Probe
January 10, 2026
Renee Good, a 37-year-old poet and mother from Minneapolis, was fatally shot by an ICE officer on January 7, 2026. She was driving an SUV when officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement confronted her. An officer shot her through the car window. The video of the incident quickly went viral online. This shocking footage exposed the harsh reality of ICE under the Trump administration’s second term, which began in January 2025. The shooting sparked protests across the city demanding ICE leave Minneapolis.
A video showing a woman attending Renee Good’s memorial gained huge attention on social media platform X. The woman said, "It feels kind of wrong being here, in some way. Part of it is being a White woman. I am privileged. So I feel like my tears are not something that's necessary when black and brown people have been experiencing this. For a long time. This isn't new for them."
When asked why she showed up, the woman said, "I work two miles from here. So, driving by, two miles, I can stop."
The memorial video posted by @Breaking911 has over 5.4 million views and 26,000 likes. It sparked debates with mixed responses about race and immigration policies. Former Republican strategist Tim Miller posted, "White people should grieve and cry. You should not racialise your tears as a general matter." Journalist Piers Morgan wrote, "Woke ideology has sent people literally bonkers."
The Department of Homeland Security claimed Renee Good tried to use her vehicle as a weapon and the officer feared for his life. Critics say the video shows Good was trying to drive away, making the shooting unnecessary.
The FBI has taken over the investigation. Meanwhile, protests against ICE continue nationwide, with many opposing the agency’s harsh actions and shootings since 2025.
The tragic death of Renee Good highlights deep divisions in the U.S. on immigration enforcement, race, and justice as America faces protests and political turmoil.
