Nepali Youth Dies, Six Hospitalized After Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Dharwad

A 27-year-old Nepali youth named Bibek died after inhaling carbon monoxide while sleeping in a closed room in Dharwad. Six others were hospitalized, with three in critical condition. The incident occurred in Sai Darshan Nagar and was discovered when a colleague found them unconscious after unanswered calls. The victims were rushed to the district hospital for treatment. The injured include Naresh (45), Nitesh (18), Dikesh (40), Sudhan (30), Kumar (50), and Lakshman (30). All seven worked at a momo outlet near K C Park and lived together in a rented room. After work on Friday night, they brought burning charcoal embers inside the room to keep warm. Since all doors and windows were closed, no fresh air entered. Carbon monoxide built up overnight, leading to poisoning. Hubballi–Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said a detailed investigation will be conducted. Vidyagiri Station Police have registered a case.
