Andhra Pradesh Approves Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport, Eighth in State
January 10, 2026
The Dagadarthi greenfield airport is now officially set to become Andhra Pradesh's eighth airport. The State Cabinet recently approved the project, signaling a strong boost to the region’s aviation sector. According to an official release on Saturday, the new airport will help build a future-ready, multimodal logistics and industrial network in Andhra Pradesh.
The airport’s location offers excellent links to national highways, two major ports – Krishnapatnam and Ramayapatnam – and key industrial hubs like KRIS City and IFFCO SEZs. This strategic spot makes the airport vital for manufacturing, exports, agri-logistics, and service industries.
The project has received in-principle clearance from the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. The government has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to invite private companies to take part in developing, operating, and maintaining the airport under a long-term concession.
Covering 1,332.80 acres, the first phase of the airport will handle 1.40 million passengers every year. It can scale up to handle 15 million passengers in the long run and will include cargo facilities to support trade and logistics.
