West Corporation Meets Residents to Tackle Road Cutting, Parking and Footpath Issues in Malleswaram
January 10, 2026
The West Corporation held a public meeting in Malleswaram on Saturday with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to address local problems. Key issues raised included road-cutting by telecommunication companies, garbage collection difficulties, and footpath encroachments. The residents welcomed the corporation’s new paid parking plan as a way to reduce disorderly parking in the city. "Despite earlier doubts about the policy being anti-people, the kind of response received from resident welfare groups has given me the courage to move forward with the plan," said Rajendra K.V., Commissioner of West Corporation. Road-cutting by telecom companies was called a persistent nuisance. Mr. Rajendra urged citizens to report illegal road cuts immediately. "In most cases, companies would have already registered themselves on the MARCCS portal, committing a certain amount to support road reconstruction. If road cutting is carried out without permission, residents can forward a complaint to my office, and a criminal case will be filed against the offenders," he explained. Footpath encroachments were another concern. The Commissioner promised to build an inclusive footpath network. "It would be helpful if citizens identified pedestrian footpaths that have been converted into vendor spaces and brought them to the notice of our office through the executive engineers," he added. Other topics discussed included traffic management, women and children’s safety, stray dog feeding zones, and improving parks and play areas. The meeting shows the corporation’s efforts to work with residents for a cleaner, safer Malleswaram.
