Karnataka official demands strict action in Inam Veerapur honour killing case

A.R. Krishnamurthy, Chairman of Karnataka Legislature’s Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Committee, stressed the need for united action to deliver justice in the Inam Veerapur village honour killing case. He chaired a meeting with police and revenue officials in Dharwad after visiting the village. Krishnamurthy said the government takes atrocities against SC/ST communities seriously and promised "stringent punishment to the accused." He assured full support for the victim’s family and highlighted the importance of awareness programs to prevent future incidents and promote harmony. Committee members including D. Thimmayya, Hemalatha Nayak, and others gathered detailed information from officials. Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. updated on administrative measures and ongoing investigations. Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya shared details of the arrests, legal steps, and security for the victim’s family. Earlier, the committee visited Inam Veerapur to meet affected family members, review security, and console them. Suresh Khanapur of Karnataka Dalita Vimochana Samiti informed that the victim’s mother-in-law remains unaware of her daughter-in-law’s death due to injury and shock. The Samiti demanded continued police protection and relief for the family, submitting a memorandum to the committee. Senior officials from multiple departments attended the meeting, reinforcing a coordinated approach.
