Two active members of the banned KCP (Noyon) were arrested for their role in firing incidents in Manipur's Imphal West district, police said on Sunday, January 11, 2026. The arrests took place on Saturday, January 10, from Sagolband and Phumlou areas. The firing incidents happened on Friday, January 9, in Langjing Achouba, Ghari, and Sangaiprou areas. A senior police officer said, "The Manipur Police conducted search operations at various places and analysed the CCTV footage in the areas." The militants were arrested after evidence linked them to the shootings. An M-20 pistol loaded with bullets was recovered. The officer added, "The two were earlier involved in at least eight firing incidents." In a separate action on Saturday, security forces seized a large cache of arms from Awlmun village in Kangpokpi district. They recovered seven rifles, four improvised mortars, two hand grenades, and ammunition. Security operations continue after ethnic violence erupted in May 2023 between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups. Over 260 people have died and thousands have lost their homes. Following political turmoil, the Centre imposed President’s rule last year after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned. The state assembly is currently under suspended animation until 2027.
