Elderly Doctor Couple in Delhi Duped of ₹14 Crore in Cyber Fraud Scam
January 11, 2026
In south Delhi's Greater Kailash, an elderly doctor couple was cheated out of nearly ₹14 crore by cybercriminals. The fraud happened between December 24 and January 9. The criminals pretended to be law enforcement officers and forced the couple to transfer large sums of money into multiple accounts. The couple was kept on constant phone and video calls and threatened with arrest. This 'digital arrest' lasted over two weeks, trapping the couple in fear. The couple had recently returned from the United States and have been living in Greater Kailash since 2016. Their children live abroad. The cybercrime came to light only when the daily calls stopped on January 9. The couple then contacted the police. An e-FIR was filed on January 10, and Delhi Police's cybercrime unit has begun an investigation.
