A team of 12 students from M.M. Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode, will perform Kolkali during the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on January 26. This dance highlights Malabar’s rich folklore tradition. The Ministry of Culture invited the team to join the folklore fusion show. Yasir Kurikkal, a well-known Kolkali artist and folklore writer who trained the students, said it is the first time a Kolkali team trained in the 'Thekkan' (southern) style has been formally invited by the Union government for Republic Day. Mr. Kurikkal also noted that student teams from other states will join the show. "It would be a unique display of the country’s cultural traditions and folklore heritage," he added.
