Kerala police have launched an investigation after a drone-like object was spotted flying over Kannur Central Jail. The Kannur Town Police registered a case on January 11 following a complaint by the Joint Superintendent of the jail. The drone was seen near the cattle shed between 4:20 pm and 4:30 pm on Saturday and later moved towards the women’s jail section. Jail officials believed it to be a drone flying inside the prison area. Recently, authorities thwarted attempts to smuggle contraband, including drugs, into the jail. Hashish oil was also recovered from a prisoner. The police are probing if the drone carried any contraband into the high-security zone. Prison authorities are boosting security by deploying more staff at watchtowers to monitor illegal drone flights. This move aims to stop any future smuggling attempts using drones.
