The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections will finally be held on January 15, 2026, ending a delay of nearly three years. The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) announced the election timetable and other details recently. Voting hours are scheduled from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm across polling stations in Greater Mumbai. The results will be declared on January 16, 2026. The election process officially began in December 2025 with notifications. The SEC announced that elections for 29 municipal corporations, including the BMC, will be held in one phase on January 15. Important dates include the nomination filing period from December 23 to December 30, 2025, and the deadline to withdraw nominations on January 2, 2026. The final list of candidates was published on January 3, 2026. To encourage voters, January 15 has been declared a public holiday in the municipal corporation areas. More than 1.03 crore voters across 227 wards in Mumbai are eligible to vote. The elections will be held under the Model Code of Conduct and follow court orders to complete pending local body polls in Maharashtra.
