India is gearing up to celebrate its 77th Republic Day with grand events. The ticket sale for Republic Day Parade, Beating the Retreat (Full Dress Rehearsal), and Beating the Retreat will end on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Sales started on January 5. The Ministry of Defence announced on January 13 that free passes will be given for the Full Dress Rehearsal of the Republic Day 2026 Parade at Kartavya Path. These free passes are available on January 15 and 16, starting at 9 am until the daily quota runs out. The Full Dress Rehearsal event will be held on January 23. People can book tickets and passes at www.aamantran.mod.gov.in or through the Aamantran mobile app available on Android and iOS. This year’s Republic Day will be special with the presence of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council António Costa as guests. Traditionally, India invites the leader of one country to the event marking the adoption of its constitution. On January 26, 1950, India adopted its Constitution, replacing the Government of India Act 1935, and became a republic after gaining independence in 1947. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. January 26 was chosen because the Indian National Congress declared Purna Swaraj (complete independence) on this date in 1930.
