Four police personnel on night duty at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital police station were suspended for failing in their duties the night a history-sheeter was murdered inside the hospital. The killing happened early Monday, January 12, 2026. Kilpauk Assistant Commissioner of Police and the Inspector of Police received official memos demanding explanations for their negligence. The victim, 23-year-old Adhi from Kolathur, was brutally hacked to death in the hospital's waiting area outside the maternity ward around 3:30 a.m. He was sleeping in a drunken state. Adhi had several criminal cases pending against him. He was at the hospital to console his friend Suchitra, whose newborn had died. Police said a gang, allegedly linked to Suchitra’s husband Surya, surrounded Adhi and attacked him with weapons. The attackers fled after the murder. Kilpauk police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Senior police officials visited the scene and started preliminary inquiries. Further investigations are underway. The incident attracted sharp criticism from the Opposition about police duty and safety inside the hospital.
