Central Team Surveys Severe Flood Damage to Crops and Roads in Kalaburagi's Kamalapur
January 13, 2026
A two-member Central team visited flood-affected Kamalapur taluk in Kalaburagi district on Tuesday. They assessed crop and infrastructure damage caused by heavy rains in August and September 2025. The team included Ponnuswamy, Director of Oilseeds Development Division, and Jayashree Kakkar, Under Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development. They inspected damaged crops, roads, and bridges in villages including Kinni Sadak, Dongargaon, Bhimanal, and Kamalapur.
In Dongargaon, farmer Abhishek showed the team his red gram field on 4.32 acres that was completely damaged. He said, "I had spent about ₹30,000 per acre but incessant rainfall destroyed the crop, leaving negligible yield." Deputy Commissioner B. Fauzia Tarannum said the district received above-normal rainfall, leading to widespread damage. Schools, health centers, and anganwadis were also damaged. Relief has been given as per NDRF norms, and additional government compensation has been disbursed following a Chief Minister-led aerial survey.
Joint Director of Agriculture Samad Patel stated that 7,892 hectares of red gram were cultivated in Kamalapur taluk, but nearly 80% of the crop was lost. He added that high soil moisture delayed sowing of the second crop, worsening farmers' distress. The team also visited farmer Mahadevappa B. Savar's 6.19-acre field where red gram was destroyed. Savar said, "I invested ₹25,000-₹30,000 per acre but the rainfall washed away the crop."
The team reviewed damaged roads and a bridge between Kinni Sadak and Dhor Jambaga village. Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhanwar Singh Meena and senior Revenue and Agriculture officials were present during the inspection.
