Nigerian Man Overstaying and Linked to Drugs Deported from Hyderabad
January 13, 2026
Hyderabad's Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has arrested and deported a Nigerian man for illegal stay and involvement with drug traffickers. Obasi James Victor, 38, from Nigeria, was caught in Tolichowki after police received a tip-off. He could not provide valid documents and had overstayed his visa since arriving in Mumbai on December 31, 2011. Initially a cloth export businessman, Obasi later ran "William African Restaurant" in Delhi. His passport and visa expired, but he stayed illegally. During this time, he got involved with drug peddlers to fund a lavish lifestyle. Police began deportation with help from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office and the Nigerian High Commission. Obasi was escorted by H-NEW officers from Hyderabad to Lagos on January 13, 2026. Police said this action stops him from further illegal acts threatening national security. H-NEW warned many foreigners in India overstay visas and join drug trade, worsening substance abuse, and hurting families and society.
