Indian Techie on H-1B Visa Claims Deportation Ordeal by US ICE Agents in Viral X Post
January 14, 2026
A viral post on X has sparked concern about the future of Indian tech workers on H-1B visas in the US. The story, described as a 'wild wild story,' tells of an Indian employee working on-site for a big tech company in the US. According to the post, he was suddenly detained by ICE agents and given only two hours to pack his belongings. The US authorities gave him two options: go to jail or be deported. He chose deportation.
The post says ICE agents closely escorted him to the airport and made sure he could not escape during his transit in Frankfurt. On the plane, a public announcement was made that he could not move freely, and similar humiliation continued at the Frankfurt airport before his Bengaluru-bound flight.
The employee's company lawyers met him at the airport. He is now under company-provided counseling and being encouraged to sue the ICE agents. The post warns that such incidents might soon become common for Indian executives on H-1B visas in the US.
Social media reactions were mixed. Some questioned how this could happen if the techie had valid paperwork. Others doubted the story, suggesting the man might have been working illegally or on a different visa like B1/B2, which restricts active work. The actual date and authenticity of the incident remain unverified.
