A tanker lorry caught fire on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH-48) near Kethandapatty village, close to Vaniyambadi in Tirupattur. The driver, 36-year-old N. Suresh from Ariyalur, was returning after delivering cement mixture. He saw smoke from the vehicle’s bonnet, and before he could get out, flames engulfed the front of the lorry. Suresh suffered burn injuries, while his 23-year-old helper, S. Gokul, jumped out safely. Passersby and nearby motorists rushed to help. Firefighters from Natrampalli quickly doused the fire after an alert. Suresh was admitted to Government Taluk Hospital in Natrampalli. Police cleared the burned lorry from the road to restore traffic. Authorities suspect an electrical short circuit caused the fire. A case has been registered, and investigations continue.
