January 16, 2026
Schools up to Class 8 in Gautam Buddh Nagar will stay closed on Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17, 2026. This decision comes due to dense fog and extreme cold weather in the region. The district administration announced the closure on January 16. The order was issued by Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar. He said, "The decision was taken in compliance with the directions of the district magistrate in view of prevailing weather conditions." All schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board, and other boards in Gautam Buddh Nagar must follow this order strictly. The order states, "All schools from Nursery to Class 8 affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board and other boards operating in Gautam Buddh Nagar district shall remain closed on January 16 and 17." Students and parents should note that any school reopening during this time will face action as per the rules. The education department had earlier extended the winter break for schools until January 15 due to cold wave conditions. The closure aims to protect children from health risks caused by the harsh weather.
