Bangalore Launches ITPB Metro Skywalk to Boost Connectivity; Yellow Line Train Derails But Services Normal
January 16, 2026
The new ITPB Metro Skywalk in Bangalore was inaugurated on Friday to improve last-mile connectivity. This 320-foot-long pedestrian corridor is 24 feet above the road. It connects the Pattandur Agrahara metro station on the Purple Line directly to the International Tech Park Bangalore and Park Square Mall. Over 55,000 professionals working in ITPB will benefit from this link.
The skywalk removes the need to cross busy roads, cuts commute times, improves pedestrian safety, and promotes public transport use. ITPB said it will also improve access for office workers, residents, and shoppers, reducing traffic congestion in the tech hub.
J. Ravishankar, managing director of BMRCL, said, "The skywalk is a good example of effective public–private collaboration that strengthens last-mile connectivity and enhances the overall commuter experience. Pedestrian linkages between metro stations and major activity hubs are essential to strengthening last-mile connectivity, improving the commuter experience, and encouraging the use of public transport, all of which support sustainable urban mobility in Bengaluru."
In separate news, a Yellow Line train derailed inside the Hebbagodi depot on the morning of January 15. The derailment caused damage to some sleepers and a section of the third rail. Officials suspect a signalling fault during the train's entry to the main line. BMRCL has not issued an official statement. However, all seven Yellow Line trains are operating normally, and services remain unaffected.
