During his visit to Nellore on Thursday, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the president of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), voiced strong criticism against the NDA government, accusing it of illegally targeting party leaders and activists. He criticized the lack of transparency regarding the allocation of resources, including basic necessities, claiming that while sand is technically free, access remains limited. Jagan pointed out that one significant case against Govardhan stemmed from his solidarity with protesting construction workers lamenting the scarcity of sand. He argued that such retaliation signifies a government struggling against legitimate grievances raised by its citizens. Furthermore, the accusations against former Venkatachalam ZPTC Venkata Seshaiah were mentioned, asserting that he faced jail time for speaking out following violent incidents against YSRCP party workers. Reddy detailed how law enforcement seemed to be weaponized against dissenters of the ruling party, adding that cases were being leveled for seemingly trivial reasons. Highlighting a particularly controversial instance, he stated that an election-related case was initiated against Govardhan when the state's administration was under the purview of the Election Commission. This claim fuels accusations of bias and political maneuvering aimed at suppressing the opposition. He also referenced a court case concerning illegal quartz mining, where the court granted bail to various accused except Govardhan, flagging an alarming inconsistency in law enforcement's treatment of individuals associated with political factions. In closing, Jagan revealed that allegations concerning a luxurious home worth ₹100 crore were based on an incorrect valuation by detractors. According to him, official reports determine the property's worth to be between ₹6 and ₹7 crore, suggesting a smear campaign rather than legitimate concern.
