NAHARIYA (ISRAEL): Israel has openly objected to the White House's announcement of a new group of leaders to oversee Gaza's next phase. Israel says this 'Gaza executive committee' was set up "without coordination with Israel and is contrary to its policy." Details on the objections were not given. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the foreign ministry to contact US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. On Friday, the White House revealed members of the so-called "Board of Peace" to supervise Gaza's temporary governance. Gaza has been under a fragile ceasefire since October. The board includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and World Bank President Ajay Banga. Donald Trump chairs the board, as per plans released in October. Notably, only one Israeli, businessman billionaire Yakir Gabay, is on the board. Argentina's Javier Milei and Canada's Mark Carney have accepted invitations to join as founding members. Milei said it would be an honor to be part of the council. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was also invited to be a founding member, while Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is still considering participation. (Inputs from AP, AFP)
