Former Irrigation Minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao has been called by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the illegal phone tapping case. The SIT notice says the MLA knows certain facts related to the case. He is required to appear before the team on January 20. The Telangana government formed a 10-member SIT, led by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, to speed up the probe. This comes nearly 21 months after the crime was first reported. Jubilee Hills Assistant Commissioner of Police P. Venkatagiri, involved since early stages, is the investigating officer for the SIT. The case involves illegal interception of phone calls using the Special Intelligence Branch. This was allegedly done to benefit the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The issue surfaced after former SIB Deputy Superintendent of Police Praneeth Rao was arrested on March 13, 2024. He was taken from his home in Rajanna Sircilla district following a complaint by his boss, Additional Superintendent of Police D. Ramesh. The complaint accused him of unauthorized interception of calls involving senior political leaders and government officials.
